The Great Zucchini races are a family-friendly event intended to build community, celebrate our
terrific Meredith Mathews YMCA and publicize the efforts of Homer Harris Community
Emergency HUB.
Zucchinis, squash, pumpkins and other (unlikely) vegetables are donated by local gardeners,
community members and grocers. Kids and families put wheels on them to create crazy,
creative vehicles of all kinds. Some families build ahead of time, but supplies and assistance to
allow kids and families to build on site. Vehicles are raced down a big wooden ramp for the
sheer, silly joy of it. There are prize ribbons for all. Everybody wins – serious or no!
11 to 12 is vehicle building and displays, noon to 2 is racing and awards!
