Amateur Radio – Basics – Hybrid class

Learn the basics about amateur radio – FRS, GMRS, and Ham.  This class is for radio newbies and those considering getting into radio communications.

  • Sunday, March 1st
  • 1pm to 3pm
  • North Seattle College (9600 College Way N.)
    • Education Building, Room 2843
    • Parking rules are enforced – $6 for 2 hours – pay stations on map below
  • Or Online via Zoom
  • Registration is required whether attending in person or online

Topics covered:

  • Differences between amateur radio types – Family Radio Service (FRS), General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), and Amateur radio (Ham)
  • How each can be used in emergency and community communications
  • How and when to use “repeaters”
  • What post-disaster communications should look like in Seattle
  • And more…

NOTE:

  • Bring your GMRS radio; we will program it during class.
    • * If you haven’t purchased a radio yet, and are considering a GMRS unit, this is the model we recommend.  BTECH GMRS-V2.
  • We will practice talking on the radio at the end of class.
