Emergency and Hub Kit tip – 10 year batteries

Posted by: admin

Extended Life Batteries

Technology continues to improve and this can be of great benefit when building your personal emergency kit and stocking Hub supplies. Here’s an announcement from one of the major Personal Emergency Kit manufacturers:

Duracell Now Guarantees
10 Years of Power Storage in Batteries

Battery maker Duracell announced a new feature for its regular as well as rechargeable, hearing aid and coin button alkaline batteries.

The new technology, called “Duralock”, guarantees power storage for at least 10 years. To achieve the increase in storage duration, Duracell uses 24 karat gold as “fuel” for creating chemical power, protects the anode and cathode with a unique separator that limits power transfer when not in use, and applies “triple corrosion protection ” that surrounds the contents in an acid resistant. There is also a battery anti-corrosive exterior.

“We know that consumers typically don’t spend a large amount of time thinking about batteries,” said Volker Kuhn, general manager for Duracell North America, in a prepared statement. “But with the demand for more battery power is on the rise due to the large amount of battery-operated devices on the market, it’s important that Duracell is recognized as a power solution they can trust.” Duracell said that the average household has about 20 devices that rely on batteries.

The company plans launch the new technology with the support of its “largest marketing campaign in [the company’s] history”. The new batteries are scheduled to be available in U.S. retail by late 2015.

So when you are building your personal emergency kit, look for these batteries. One supplier of emergency bags says that these batteries are now on the market, they will say 10 years on the packaging, and the expiration date will be stamped on the battery. This will be great, not having to swap out kit or hub box batteries every year! Do be aware, the 10 year power storage means just that, the batteries will be good for 10 years in an unused, static state. Once you start using them, the power will be drained just like any normal battery.
