DESCRIPTION:PhinneyWood Hubs\, the neighborhood disaster preparedness group\, will hold its next public meeting to launch the “Unified Neighborhood Response” program\, which brings together households\, Watch Block teams\, and Emergency Hubs in a coordinated system to respond to a major earthquake or other disaster.\n \nThe meeting will feature:\n● Reports From the Field: Block Leaders report on work with their neighbors\,\n● Household Preparedness – The Foundation : Presentation/discussion with local expert Kelly Kasper\,\n● Practice & Training : We will evaluate proposed new procedures for Blocks and Hubs in a small group breakout session.\n \nThis is the first in a series of monthly meetings leading up to a full scale neighborhood exercise in June 2016. PhinneyWood Hubs will participate in the national level “Cascadia Rising” exercise\, which will involve federal\, state\, and local agencies in a functional drill to practice response to a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.\n \nThe meeting is free. DESCRIPTION:Watch cargo bikes move equipment as though a disaster has struck Seattle and we need to move supplies though out the West Seattle peninsula.  It’s a challenging 30 mile route that will be revealed to participants the day of the event.  We will list the West Seattle Hubs who will host a cargo change stop once the route is determined.  The Auxiliary Communications Service ham radio operators will provide course support\, so you can also watch the ham radio network in action.

SUMMARY:'Big Shaker' Earthquake Event
DESCRIPTION:Seattle’s Office of Emergency Management and Seattle Parks and Recreation invite members of the public and media to attend the City’s first ever\, ‘Big Shaker’ Earthquake Event at Westlake Park on Tuesday\, Oct. 11.\nThe ‘Big Shaker’ is a 22’ foot-long\, 6\,500-pound earthquake simulator that gives participants the opportunity to experience the shaking of a simulated 8.0 earthquake.\nMore than 100 members of the public will also have the opportunity to step into the ‘Big Shaker’.  Tickets will be distributed to the public at Westlake Park on the day of the event and are on a first come\, first served basis. Tickets for riding in the ‘Big Shaker’ between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon will be passed out at 9:30 a.m. Tickets for riding between noon and 2 p.m. will be distributed at 11:30 a.m.\nIn addition to riding in the ‘Big Shaker’\, several City departments and vendors\, including QuakeHold\, will be present to give participants the opportunity to: \n• Learn how to build an emergency kit\, make a disaster plan and help each other \n• Hear about how to get involved neighborhood and community preparedness (including Hubs and Seattle Auxiliary Communication Service tables) \n• Practice shutting off utilities \n• Play fun preparedness games and win prizes \nFor information on Seattle’s earthquake risk and how to get prepared for disasters\, visit the Seattle Office of Emergency Management’s website. http://www.seattle.gov/emergency-management \n  \n

This event is your chance to ask questions about your planned remodel and our permitting process\, code requirements\, and rental housing and tenant assistance program. RainWise provides rebates to cover most or all the cost of installing cisterns and rain gardens. To receive a rebate\, you must live in an eligible combined sewer overflow basin. Seattle Public Utilities will help you determine if your property qualifies.\nSeattle City Light will have information about energy-saving tips\, available rebates for your home\, and how to buy the right LED bulb and take advantage of in-store instant discounts on LEDs
