SUMMARY:Stop The Bleed Class
DESCRIPTION:Will you be ready? \nA person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. Emergency responders will arrive as quickly as possible\, but bystanders are almost always there first. In the case of disaster and high casualty incidents\, emergency services are often spread thin. \nStop the Bleed! \nBlood loss is the leading cause of preventable death in multiple casualty events\, like mass shootings\, terrorist attacks and earthquakes. Significant external bleeding can also result from everyday events such as a motorcycle crash\, or industrial accident.  Rapid control of bleeding at the scene of the event can be life-saving. That’s why we’re teaming up with Harborview Medical Center\, the American College of Surgeons Washington State Committee on Trauma\, and Seattle and King County EMS  to ensure that: \n\nBystanders have skills and knowledge to provide immediate bleeding control to victims at the scene of an event.\nBleeding control supplies are located in all public gathering locations next to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).\nBleeding control education is incorporated into our schools and workplace.\nPeople know what to do in an active shooter situation

SUMMARY:Beacon Emergency Action Network Community Event
DESCRIPTION:The Beacon Hill area is seriously under–represented in terms of community emergency hubs\, and the Beacon Emergency Action Network (BEAN) is asking you to join us to help bring our neighborhood the healthy resiliency we deserve. It’s been proven that neighborhoods where people are connected survive and thrive when things fall apart. \n  \nBEAN is a grassroots movement and it begins with neighbor–to–neighbor introductions. Our drop–in meeting is your chance to sign up to commit you and your neighbors to our newly forming Emergency Network. Local information will be provided to help you and your families and neighbors begin the process of creating safety networks. \n  \nMeet representatives from Seattle preparedness programs: Seattle Neighbors Actively Prepare (SNAP)\, the Seattle Emergency Communications Hubs\, HAM radio operators and others to get information on how you can learn about alternative methods of communication\, safe spaces\, and other subjects. Translation services provided. \n

SUMMARY:Earthquake Home Retrofit Class
DESCRIPTION:Prior to 1980\, building codes did not require builders to secure houses to their foundations. This does not mean that every house built before 1980 is “unsecured”\, only that it was not a requirement. If your home is not properly secured\, it may be at increased risk of “slipping” off the foundation during an earthquake. Retrofitting involves bolting your home to its foundation and providing sheer/pony wall strength.\nLearn to become an informed consumer or how to do home retrofit yourself. Retrofit experts will show how to assess your home’s needs and how to use the City of Seattle’s pre-engineered Home Retrofit plans to permit and retrofit your home. No registration required. \nNo registration is required \nRainier Beach Library\, 9125 Rainier Ave S\, Seattle\, WA 98118
