New app helps remind you to take

steps to prepare for diasters

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has just released a new application for your smartphone which sends you reminders to help keep your emergency kit and plan in top shape.  If you have taken the time to build your own kit and have a plan, there is also a need to keep certain supplies fresh and to make sure the contact information in your emergency plan is up to date.  This new app will do just that; you set a reminder alert it will send you that reminder to take action.  And to help with how we really run our lives, it has a snooze feature if you can’t get to it right away.

You can set reminders for kit updates, when to practice your evacuation plan (very handy when you have kids!) and even has a feature which will send you preparedness tip on a regular schedule.   You can even have it remind you to change the batteries in your smoke alarm.  This is in addition other great features on the app:

Available for Apple, Android and Blackberry OS, more information can be found at http://www.fema.gov/mobile-app
